Irwandi Yusuf is not the first Aceh governor to deal with the Corruption Eradication Commission. Before him was Abdullah Puteh. The Aceh governor (2000-2004 term) was sentenced to 10 years in prison following his corruption conviction in the procurement of a Russian helicopter.

Irwandi Yusuf is not the first Aceh governor to deal with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Before him was Abdullah Puteh. The Aceh governor for the 2000-2004 term was sentenced on Apr. 11, 2005 to 10 years in prison following his corruption conviction in the procurement of a Russian MI-2 Rostov helicopter.
This was also not the first time that Irwandi has faced the law. On Nov. 3, 2003, Irwandi, born Aug. 2, 1960 in Bireuen, was sentenced to 7 years in prison after he was tried at the Banda Aceh District Court for charges related to drafting a speech for Free Aceh Movement (GAM) commander Muzakkir Manaf, writing a press release as GAM spokesman and several other activities related to GAM.
