Organizing Committee Optimistic
Responding to a series of terrorist acts in the past week, the government and the organizing committee of the Asian Games 2018 and the Asian Para Games 2018 have assured that preparations were not disrupted.
Asian Games XVIII mascot Atung the Bawean deer is placed at the State Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday (14/5/2018). The State Palace is adorned with the mascots Bhin Bhin, Kaka and Atung to promote the 2018 Asian Games, which is slated to kick off on Aug. 18.
JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Responding to a series of terrorist acts in the past week, the government and the organizing committee of the Asian Games 2018 and the Asian Para Games 2018 have assured that preparations were not disrupted. They continue to make optimal efforts to ensure that the sports competitions will run as planned. They are ready to explain to all participating countries not to worry or cancel their participation.
The series of incidents were the deadly riot on May 8-9 at the headquarters of the National Police Mobile Brigade (Mako Brimob) in Depok, West Java, the bombings on Sunday (13/5/2018) of three churches in Surabaya, East Java, the bomb explosion on Sunday night in Sidoarjo, East Java, and the bomb attack on Monday (14/5/2018) at the Surabaya Police headquarters.
