The government\'s response, which has not hit a single, unified note in addressing the existence of dead worms in canned fish products, has confused the public.

On March 23, 2018, the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) announced the results of a test on canned fish products. Pieces of dead parasitic worms were found in 27 brands of canned fish, both locally produced and imported products. Manufacturers and importers of the canned fish products were asked to recall and destroy their products. The BPOM also prohibited the use of raw materials imported from China until further tests were conducted.
