Several US lawmakers, industry leaders and foreign governments have decried US President Donald Trump\'s announced tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. But the reaction was far different in Steel City. The workers and companies in and around Pittsburgh, the industrial engine of western Pennsylvania that used to produce much of the world\'s steel, have aligned with the president, saying his announcement is less of a protectionist measure than a levelling of the playing field for American workers.

United States President Donald Trump has fulfilled his campaign promise to put America First. Trump has begun to implement various economic policies to “Make America Great Again” as he promised during his campaign, by among other measures implementing trade protection.

The US policy to open its economy to international investment and trade is believed to have harmed many domestic industries. This is the reason why Trump is imposing import tariffs of up to 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. Steel and aluminum are needed for the transportation industry as well as various construction and infrastructure projects. Trump will provide fiscal incentives to US strategic industries so that imports can be reduced.
