Citarum’s 2018 Target to Fail
The West Java provincial government is predicted to fail in meeting its target to make the Citarum river water potable by 2018.

The Citarum River contributes to the local economy, such as by supporting cage aquaculture as seen Thursday (4/1) near the Saguling Reservoir in Maroko, Bandung regency, West Java.
JAKARTA, KOMPAS – The West Java provincial government is predicted to fail in meeting its target to make the Citarum river water potable by 2018. The Citarum remains heavily contaminated to this day with industrial, household, human and animal waste.
West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan unveiled the 2018 target to make the Citarum river water potable in 2013, following an environmental report that ranked the Citarum as the dirtiest river in the world.
