A series of violent protests has hit Iran for six consecutive days since Dec. 28, ending on Tuesday (2/1). The protests quickly spread to 20 cities across the “Land of the Mullahs”. As of Monday night, at least 22 people had died in the protests.
Even more shockingly, the protests that initially started on Saturday in the city of Mashhad, around 891 kilometers east of Tehran, spurred similar protests in Tehran and Qom. These two cities are the political and religious power base of the Velayat-e Fakih regime, founded by revolution leader Ayatollah Khomeini.
