29,023 Villagers Evacuated
Tens of thousands of villagers living in the danger zone of the rumbling Mount Agung evacuated the area amid rising volcanic activity.
Stranded passengers from 455 flights wait at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Monday (27/11). The flights were cancelled as a precaution following Mount Agung’s eruption.
KARANGASEM, KOMPAS — Tens of thousands of villagers living in the danger zone of the rumbling Mount Agung in Bali’s Karangasem regency evacuated the area amid rising volcanic activity on Monday (27/11). The evacuation process was calmer than during the first eruption, which had caused panic.
As of Monday night local time, 29,023 evacuees had been put up in 217 evacuation centers. The evacuation locations, in line with agreements with 28 village heads grouped in Pasementonan Jagabaya (Pasebaya) of Mount Agung, are located in village halls or sports buildings.
