Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Agus Rahardjo (center) punches the air as he prepares to leave with deputy chairman Saut Situmorang (right) and spokesman Febri Diansyah, after reading out an announcement on naming House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto a suspect at Jakartaโ€™s KPK headquarters on Monday (17/7).

The history of eradicating corruption is repeating itself as leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) are again being criminalized.

The issuance of a letter of notification to open an investigation (SPDP) is part of the criminalization tactics being used against the KPK leadership. This shows that the KPK, which many people consider as a super-body institution, is actually weak. When support from the national leadership is not solid, when power is polarized, and when conflicts of interest exist between different groups, the KPK is easily weakened.
