A farmer transports oil palm fruit at a plantation in Jambi Tulo village, Maro Sebo district, Muaro Jambi, on Thursday (6/7). The price of palm oil has declined in the past two weeks to Rp 900 per kilogram from Rp 1,200. The decrease has negatively impacted farmers.

Indonesia\'s exports are rising as a result of a surge in commodity prices. Dependence on commodities, however, is not good in the long term.

Exports of crude palm oil and coal increased by 41 percent and 50 percent, respectively, from January to September 2017. Although commodity exports are helping to revive economic growth, the experiences of other countries shows us that dependence on exports should be reduced.
