Collaboration between ‘Kompas’ and Young Designers
The creative idea came out of the blue. Last weekend, a number of young people came to the Kompas editorial office in South Palmerah, Jakarta. Among the people in the entourage were Lala Bohang, David Irianto and the more senior Andi Surya Wirawan Sadha. We had a chat. The young millennial generation had an idea about contributing by making the Kompas newspaper a place for them to produce their artwork.
The idea was surprising and unexpected. How can they expect a sacred journalistic space that promotes the principle of press independence to be intervened by young visual artists, graphic designers, illustrators or photographers, especially given that they are not Kompas reporters and not from Kompas? The newspaper, which was first published in June 28, 1965, is certainly much older than the designers themselves, most of whom are aged 20-30 years old.
