A woman walks by an inoperative solar power plant in Eliasa village, Selaru Island, Southwest Maluku regency, Maluku, Thursday (24/8). The power plant, which was provided as energy assistance for the outer island in 2013, was operational for less than a month before it broke down, as the aid program did not include training local residents how to maintain the facility.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS โ€“ Indonesia is overshadowed by an energy crisis as the gap in supply and demand, especially in oil and gas, continues to widen, while the utilization of renewable energy is not yet optimal. If left unchecked, this will affect the countryโ€™s energy security and sustainability.

Even in a number of areas known to be energy producers are frequently having a problem meeting their energy needs, especially for electricity.
