State Institution Minus Statesman
JAKARTA, KOMPAS β Recent tensions in some state institutions have shown that there is a crisis of statesmanship in public institutions. Political elites are too busy in their crave for power and demonstrate unethical and unlawful politics.
In the long term, a lack of statesman causing state administrative crises could trigger public apathy over the state administration, and that could open the way for anti-democratic elements.
The crisis of statesman, for example, is seen in the polemics at the Regional Representatives Council, which peaked in the past few days. The elite at the DPD competed with each other for leadership posts. The Supreme Court was carried into the flare-up after Supreme Court deputy chief justice Suwardi led the swearing-in ceremony of Oesman Sapta Odang, Nono Sampono and Darmayanti Lubis.
