Women Susceptible to Becoming Victims of Violence
TERNATE, KOMPAS – Efforts to protect women from violence, especially sexual violence, must be rolled out on a massive scale in light of the cases of violence against women that continue to occur. For this reason, the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry has urged the House of Representatives to approve the sexual violence bill and pass it into law.
“The International Women’s Day (March 8) reminds us of the global commitment to push Indonesia to become one of 10 big countries that bringsabout gender equality by 2030,” said Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Yembise on the sidelines of the 2017 Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Development National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) on Wednesday (8/3) in Ternate city, North Maluku.
Yesterday, International Women’s Day was commemorated in a number of cities, such as Bandung (West Java), Pontianak (West Kalimantan) and Balikpapan (East Kalimantan). Several organizations and community groups have spoken about the high rate of cases of violence against women.
